Making the Most of the Micro – Ep5: Keeping a Record

NB: Unfortunately, due to a fault on the original recording, the first 45 seconds of audio is missing.
Episode 5 explores databases, looking at the card reference system at the BBC recording archive, how to store and retrieve smaller amounts of information using arrays in BASIC, and commercial database software available for the micro. The programme also looks at real-world databases applications, such as those in use by the British Waterways Authority and US newspapers, and also at early examples of hard disks.
Making the Most of the Micro was broadcast in 1983 as part of the BBC’s Computer Literacy Project, following on from the earlier series, The Computer Programme. Unlike its predecessor, Making the Most of the Micro explored in greater depth the technical details of computing and the potential uses that microcomputers could be put to, once again mainly making use of the BBC Micro for demonstration purposes in the studio.
